The TARA Big Lunch 2017 will take place on Sunday, 18th June, from 12 to 4 in the northern end of Tradescant Road. Please join us for a bite to eat and a chance to get to know your neighbours. Bring food and drink to share! This year it is a double celebration as it is Fathers’ Day!
Many thanks to Stephanie Waddell for generously allowing us to reproduce her beautiful painting of Tradescant Road on the leaflets and posters for this event. Thanks also to Kate Joseph for the design of leaflet and poster, and Mike Noy for arranging the organizing meetings and printing.
The Friends of Vauxhall Park are also holding their Summer Fair on that Sunday, from 2 to 5, we do hope that people will be able to spend time at both if they want to! Perhaps joining us for some food before it starts or coming back for the food and games (about 3.00) or entertainment (about 4.00).
If you would like to help with organizing the party, send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org or come on the day at 10.00 a.m. to help set up.
Begun in 2009, the Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours organized by the Eden Project and funded by the National Lottery. This year the celebration is also being linked to the Great Get-together – the Eden project website explains …
“What is The Big Lunch’s involvement with The Great Get Together?
Since its inception, The Big Lunch has been striving to create a ‘Thanksgiving day for neighbours’, to create opportunities for neighbours to come together. We felt that the ‘more in common’ values that Jo Cox advocated throughout her work echoed our own, and thus a partnership with The Great Get Together and the Jo Cox Foundation made sense. The anniversary of Jo’s death is 16 June, and The Great Get Together weekend that follows is all about furthering what we are all trying to achieve: community connections and stronger relationships.”
